Do you find it easy to make new friends & connections? Do you have a network of people to share & tell of niggling doubts & insecure thoughts about your journey through life? Or would you rather keep schtum? Is it putting too much info out there? How do you avoid feelings of loneliness?
♥Oh ageing, thou art a colourful & multi faceted thing… Recently a friend made me laugh when she referred to talking about what bits are dropping off/packing up/being replaced as “the organ recital”!…
♥When I stopped clutching my pelvic floor laughing, I started thinking about the reasons No Limits Magazine evolved from The Invisibility Myth concept. We want to publish stories – glorious colourful, unembellished truth about lives lived & loved, wisdom lost & gained. We are documenting the oral history of us extraordinary ordinary humans that can easily fade & be lost over time, ensuring that invisibility is a choice not a media driven directive. I want future generations to know who the woman is in my photos, & if they see my entry in the last UK Census as “ministering angel of domestic sluttery” they will be in no doubt that I endeavoured to walk to my own beat!…
♥ I’m increasingly not interested in small talk – SHOW ME YOUR SOUL! I would say it’s an age thing, but in truth, i’ve always been like it…It did backfire last year when I shared my magazine idea with a stranger & it all got a tad Single White Female, but hey-ho nothing ventured, nothing gained. What buoyed me up through the ensuing nastiness, was the fresh perspective & support shared with me by my old & new friendships… But back to the organ recital: At a recent breakfast with two glorious No Limits ladies of a certain age, (one of whom I had not met before) I was encouraged to dial down my feelings of terror to concern at the prospect of having to have a knee replacement in the not too distant future… Speaking to someone who has been through the process (successfully) has helped me validate the process & evaporate a lot of the fear. Suddenly I feel more empowered to manage my choices, take control… The three of us enjoyed sharing more than just food & a cheeky bloody Mary, we felt safe & comfortable opening up what lies beneath. We were prepared to be honest, accepting of being questioned & disagreed with. How else can we get to really know ourselves? Self-analysis of ones belly button fluff can only go so far!
♥Age UK say on their website: “No one should feel they have no one to turn to, but we also know loneliness can have a big impact on our mental and physical health.
Over recent years there has been growing public attention to loneliness in our communities and this has been accompanied by a shift in our understanding of its impact.
We now know that, for example, the effect of loneliness and isolation can be as harmful to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and is more damaging than obesity.
It is associated with depression, sleep problems, impaired cognitive health, heightened vascular resistance, hypertension, psychological stress and mental health problems.”
♥Do you find it easy to make new friends & connections? Do you have a network of people to share & tell of niggling doubts & insecure thoughts about your life journey? Or would you rather keep schtum? Is it putting too much info out there? How do you avoid feelings of loneliness? Are your circumstances through choice or necessity? We would love you to get in touch & tell us your story. We want to help influence the decisions governments & institutions are making on our behalf – us (g)Olders demand to be heard. WE ARE NOT INVISIBLE!
♥Last, but SOOOOOOO not least, I can report that the Spring 2019 issue of No Limits is shaping up beautifully, & looking to be our biggest yet. We have a crush on our ageless New Yorker cover model, who says in her interview: “people will want to know who this non shrinking flower is and what makes her flower and flourish. My spirit is timeless therefore my age does not matter. Live Life Be Yourself!” We suggest you fasten your seatbelts – it’s going to be a corker – one of many!
THANKS in abundance for all your follows on our social media pages. It means the world to us. Please, please spread the word & follow, follow, follow – in your own unique way of course.
Evolution, Revolution & Love to you Glorious (g)Olders
